The film release
Supporting the film’s general release, République de la Malbouffe will also be distributed on DVD as part of the magazine Rue89 Le Mensuel's February issue. The issue will be devoted to what the French nation has – literally – on its plate in the 2012 presidential campaign. Xavier Denamur will contribute an article entitled “Citoyens, levez-vous pour vous mettre à table !” (“Citizens, rise up and come to the table!”), explaining the film’s unorthodox distribution strategy. Far from compromising its general release, this complementarity will create a wave of awareness and build a strong media presence. The running time of the film and the communication materials linked with its release will allow those who wish to do so to organise audience discussions following screenings. During the entire 2012 presidential campaign, every cinema showing the film will thus become an active and vital participant in the electoral process. During the shooting of the film’s sequel République de la Malbouffe: l’Elu Contre-Attaque (...The Winner Fights Back), the film crew will follow the candidates as they campaign in Paris and the provinces, visiting cinemas screening the film, and hosting debates between viewers, trade associations, restaurateurs, farmers, schools of hotel and restaurant management and politicians. République de la Malbouffe is a film that will make you want to be a part of the resurgent citizenry of France.
